The ceremony, held at the presidential palace in Kyiv, marked a new phase in diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Ahmed, who is based in Belgrade, Serbia, will serve as Somalia’s non-resident envoy to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy thanked Somalia for its continued support of Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity amid ongoing international efforts to secure lasting peace.

He also praised Somalia’s participation in global initiatives aimed at promoting stability and cooperation.

In his remarks, Ahmed commended the Ukrainian people for their resilience, productivity, and patriotism, describing Ukraine as a nation that has made significant contributions among countries that fought for their sovereignty.

He expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in trade and education, saying both nations stand to benefit from new bilateral agreements.

Zelenskyy wished Ahmed success in his mission, emphasizing the importance of building a relationship rooted in friendship, mutual respect, and partnership.

Following the credential ceremony, Ahmed and his deputy, Ismail Adan, met with officials at Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss deepening bilateral ties.

The delegation also visited one of Ukraine’s oldest universities, where they met Somali graduates who have earned recognition at home for their academic and professional achievements.
