Somali police have raided a house in Mogadishu allegedly used as an illegal abortion clinic, arresting a suspected doctor, officials said.
Abortion is illegal in Somalia, a 100% Muslim country, and is considered a crime under Islamic law. Authorities said the clinic violated both.
Police said the suspect was charging women $200 per procedure. Officials described the raid as part of a wider crackdown on unlicensed medical practices.
A police spokesperson said the operation was aimed at protecting women and enforcing the law. “We urge the public to report similar illegal activities,” they added.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect or the exact number of women who received services at the clinic. Investigations are ongoing.
