Somali National Army forces have reportedly killed Al-Shabaab’s finance chief, his deputy, and bodyguards in an operation.

The slain militant, Yahye Abuu Khalid, managed extortion operations in Daynunay, south of Baidoa, and three AK-47 rifles were recovered by troops.

Officials said the raid followed intelligence identifying the militants’ positions. The 8th Brigade commander praised the soldiers’ bravery for successfully eliminating the insurgents’ leadership group.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt Al-Shabaab attacks near Baidoa, where the group frequently launches ambushes against Somali forces.

Al-Shabaab, active for over a decade, funds its operations through extortion, illegal taxation, and other activities in rural areas of southern Somalia.
