MOGADISHU, Somalia — Turkey’s ambassador to Somalia met Thursday with Puntland’s president, discussing security, political tensions and humanitarian challenges.
Ambassador Alper Aktaş, accompanied by Turkish Embassy officials, held talks with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni at Mogadishu’s Halane compound.
A statement from the Puntland presidency said discussions focused on Somalia’s security, political situation and humanitarian conditions amid continuing national uncertainty.
The two sides also addressed tensions surrounding the country’s electoral framework and efforts to resolve the ongoing political impasse.
Deni has recently held separate consultations with international representatives to discuss the electoral deadlock and proposed amendments to Somalia’s provisional constitution.
Somalia faces a sensitive political crossroads, with disputes between the federal government and opposition figures threatening progress on elections and state-building.
The country is also confronting worsening humanitarian conditions caused by widespread drought affecting vulnerable communities and livestock across several regions.
