MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said Friday that an airstrike targeting an al-Shabab training camp in the Galgaduud region killed 12 militants, including senior commanders, and wounded 13 others.
The agency said the operation, conducted in coordination with international partners, struck a facility in Ceel-Dhiiqo Weyne, a rural area located between Ceel-lahelay and Ceel-garas.
The camp was reportedly being used to train and prepare more than 400 fighters for planned attacks.
“This operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate al-Shabab and dismantle terror plots that threaten Somali civilians,” NISA said in a statement.
The agency added that security forces are pursuing surviving militants who fled toward the district of Ceelbuur following the strike.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaida-linked extremist group, continues to wage an insurgency across parts of Somalia despite sustained military operations by Somali and allied forces.
