MOGADISHU, Somalia — U.S. AFRICOM commander Gen. Dagvin Anderson met Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu to discuss counterterrorism cooperation.
They discussed counterterrorism efforts, U.S. support for Somali security forces, and strengthening cooperation against al-Shabab and ISIS militants.
Anderson also met African Union envoy El-Hadji Ibrahima Diene to review joint operations and AUSSOM’s role in stabilizing Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
The visit comes as U.S. airstrikes intensify and al-Shabab continues deadly attacks, including recent assaults on military bases and towns in southern Somalia.
