Somalia has ordered all foreign workers to obtain crime clearance documents from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by February 10.
Police spokesman Abdifatah Aden said all businesses and non-governmental organizations are mandated to secure these documents from the CID.
Aden said the directive is meant to prevent the funding of Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked militant group.
He accused both Al-Shabaab and ISIS of infiltrating businesses to collect extortion funds without detection.
“We warn against engaging with any business or organization that fails to provide proof of clearance,” he said.
The move comes as Somalia pledged to curb any financial channels used by Al Shabab. This also ensures all entities operating in Somalia are properly vetted.
