Somalia and Ethiopia have kicked off a mid-term review meeting to assess the implementation of agreements reached during the inaugural Joint Ministerial Committee meeting held earlier in Mogadishu.

The meeting was held in Addis Ababa, bringing together senior officials and technical committees from both countries. The main objective is to evaluate progress made in key sectors and explore new avenues for enhanced cooperation.

Mohamed Isaaq Fatiir, Somalia’s Director General for East African Social Affairs, said the talks will focus on ties between people, security, economic growth, youth, and shared national goals.

In his remarks,  Zerihun Abebe, Ethiopia’s  Director General for African Affairs, said the review marks an important step forward in consolidating bilateral ties.

He touched the need to explore new opportunities for cooperation in trade, education, healthcare, labor and skill development, and civil aviation.

The talks are expected to further deepen the longstanding relationship between Somalia and Ethiopia, building stronger regional ties and growth.
