Comoros Defense Minister Youssoufa Mohamed Ali arrived in Mogadishu for the 34th EASF Policy Organs Meeting.
The meeting focuses on regional security, military cooperation, and EASF’s role in promoting peace and stability across Eastern Africa.
Held in Mogadishu, the session marks Somalia’s first time hosting the high-level gathering, a key event in the EASF governance cycle.
The Chiefs of Defence Forces session was officially opened by Somalia’s State Minister for Defense, H.E. Omar Ali Abdi.
Brigadier General Madey Nurey Sheikh of Somalia chaired the session as he welcomed senior military leaders from the region.
Over two days, officials are reviewing security strategies, operational plans, and key documents to shape EASF’s future direction.
Key topics include terrorism, climate-driven crises, violent extremism, and political instability affecting regional peace efforts.
EASF Director Paul Njema praised Somalia’s hosting and called it a symbol of growing regional unity.
He unveiled plans for the first-ever maritime command post exercise to enhance regional defense readiness.
Njema also introduced a draft strategic plan for 2026–2030 to guide EASF’s long-term operations and priorities.
The meeting will inform decisions at the upcoming EASF Council of Ministers’ session later this week.
Delegates commended Somalia’s leadership and reaffirmed their joint commitment to regional peace and security efforts.
