MOGADISHU, Somalia — A Somali delegation led by Dr. Yusuf Ali Mohamed, Director General of the Ministry of Internal Security, has attended the annual Serbia-Africa Integrity Summit.
The summit gathered representatives from 51 African countries, focusing on ways to strengthen the long-established ties between Serbia and Africa, a relationship that has lasted for over a century.
This annual event is an important opportunity to deepen collaboration between African countries and Eastern Europe, with a focus on security, and includes heads of security agencies from across the continent.
During the summit, Dr. Mohamed met with Serbian security officials and other countries’ representatives to discuss strengthening cooperation and building stronger relations.
He also thanked the Serbian government for its warm hospitality and congratulated Somalia’s Embassy in Belgrade for their continued dedication and service to the country.
Last week, Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), arrived in Belgrade following an official invitation.
During his visit, he met with Serbian counterpart Ivica Dačić to discuss ways to enhance cooperation, strengthen political ties, and improve training programs for Somali police units.
They signed an agreement between the Somali and Serbian police forces, which is expected to bring mutual benefits in the near future.
Minister Fartaag also concluded a months-long training program for over 30 officers, both male and female, from the Somali Police Force.
Somalia and Serbia share a strong and longstanding relationship, based on mutual respect and continuous collaboration. They support each other on issues related to Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, grounded in international law and the diplomatic understanding both nations reached in 1960.
