
BELGRADE, Serbia – Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), received a warm welcome upon his arrival in the capital, Belgrade, on Wednesday, following an official invitation.
Minister Fartaag held talks with Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security, Ivica Dačić, discussing relations and ways to enhance cooperation in the field of security, advance political relations, and boost training programs for Somali police units.
Following the meeting, both Fartaag and Dačić signed an agreement between the Somali Police and the Serbian Police, which is expected to yield mutual benefits in the near future. Serbian security experts also provided technical expertise, playing a crucial role in strengthening Somalia’s police force.
During his visit, he is also expected to oversee the completion of training for Somali officers who have been receiving professional instruction at Serbia’s leading police academies, including those in Kula and Goć. Serbia continues to play a key role in supporting the development of Somalia’s security institutions.
He is also expected to visit the Vlatacom Institute for Security Studies and Development. He expressed his gratitude to Somalia’s Foreign Ministry, the Embassy in Serbia, the Ambassador, and the diplomats at the Belgrade Embassy for facilitating his visit and helping to achieve Somalia’s future goals.
Somalia and Serbia share a strong and longstanding relationship, based on mutual respect and continuous collaboration. They support each other on issues related to Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, grounded in international law and the diplomatic understanding both nations reached in 1960.
