MOGADISHU, Somalia— Puntland’s president left the capital Friday after negotiations with federal leaders over elections and constitutional changes collapsed without agreement.

Saciid Abdullahi Deni departed Aden Adde International Airport for Garowe after several days in Mogadishu attending talks involving federal officials and stakeholders.

The negotiations failed after the sides could not agree on key agenda items concerning the electoral framework and proposed constitutional amendments.

During his stay, Deni met federal officials, opposition leaders and civil society representatives to discuss Somalia’s political situation and growing tensions.

Before departing, Deni criticized President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, saying further dialogue would not succeed and expressing frustration with the stalled negotiations.

The collapse of talks heightens political uncertainty as Somalia faces pressure to agree on elections and manage its ongoing transitional period.
