Pakistan and Somalia agreed Friday to strengthen counterterrorism and security cooperation after talks between their interior ministers in Islamabad, officials said.
The agreement emerged during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a high-level Somali delegation led by Ali Yusuf on Friday.
Both sides agreed on a joint strategy against terrorism and extremism, expanding cooperation in training, border management and disaster management efforts regionally.
Yusuf said Somalia faces severe security challenges, is fighting terrorists, and hopes the visit will further strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
Naqvi said Pakistan understands Somalia’s challenges, pledged full counterterrorism cooperation, and announced visa facilitation for Somali medical and education travelers visiting Pakistan.
Yusuf praised Islamabad’s development efforts, delivered a message from Somalia’s prime minister, and invited Naqvi to visit Somalia during future official talks.
