Puntland, FGS Trade Blame Over Dhahar Violence

Read Time:1 Minute, 4 Second

Puntland state authorities have accused Somalia’s Federal Government of provoking violence in Dhahar and destabilizing peaceful areas across the region.

Interior Minister Abdi Farah Said (Juha) said the federal government was spreading unrest and fueling tensions in regions previously known for calm.

He accused the central government of mobilizing armed militias and instigating deadly conflict in Dhahar, undermining Puntland’s efforts to combat terrorism.

Minister Juha called the incident a betrayal of Puntland’s anti-terror struggle, holding the federal government responsible for bloodshed and rising tensions in Haylan region.

“Yesterday it was RasKamboni, today it’s Dhahar,” Juha said, criticizing the government’s pattern of provoking unrest in different regions for unclear political motives.

In response, the Federal Government’s Interior Ministry expressed regret over the Dhahar violence, calling the incident a tragic event that must not be repeated again.

The ministry sent condolences to the victims’ families and wished recovery for the injured, urging all parties involved to show restraint and end the clashes.

Federal authorities appealed to community elders, religious leaders, and intellectuals to help calm tensions and prevent future outbreaks of violence in the region.

They also urged the Puntland president to withdraw troops from Qardho, originally meant to fight extremists but allegedly redirected to internal political conflicts instead.
