MOGADISHU, Somalia — Abdirahman Odowa said Wednesday he has resigned from the Justice and Unity Party (JSP), citing deep, long-standing differences with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and accusing him of consolidating power and sidelining dissent.
Odowa, who served as the party’s secretary-general, said his decision takes effect immediately. He alleged that president Mohamud has made both national and party decision-making “begin and end with himself,” while refusing to consider opposing views or consult his political team.
He also accused the president of broadly rejecting advice from government institutions, raising concerns about governance and inclusivity in the country’s political process.
The resignation marks a significant political split between two figures who have worked together for years, underscoring tensions within Somalia’s leadership as the country navigates complex political and security challenges.
There was no immediate response from the presidency.
