At least two Ethiopian soldiers were killed and two others wounded in a roadside bomb attack on their convoy in Baidoa town, about 250km south-west of Mogadishu.
The blast occurred on the road to Baidoa airport, targeting a convoy of Ethiopian forces serving in the African Union mission in Somalia.
The explosion destroyed one military vehicle completely before they reached their destination at the airport base.
After the attack, Ethiopian troops fired sporadic gunshots and blocked movement along the road, later withdrawing from the site hours afterwards.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the bombing, calling it part of ongoing operations targeting Ethiopian forces in South West State.
The attack follows a surge in Al-Shabaab raids, mortar fire, and ambushes against Ethiopian army positions in Bay and Bakool regions.
