US strike kills 9 Al Shabaab in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia — The United States military says it has carried out air strike against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in southwest of Somalia, killing at least 9 militants.

The strike was conducted on November 30, 2018 near Lebede area in south west of Somalia’s Bay region, according to US Africom commando.

The commando said the strike had killed nine Al Shabaab militants.

The air raid was carried out in support  to the Federal Government of Somalia’s continued efforts to degrade al-Shabaab.

“We currently assess this airstrike killed nine (9) militants with no civilians involved”, the commando said.

U.S. forces will use all effective and appropriate methods to protect the Somali people, including partnered military counter-terror operations with the Federal Government of Somalia, Africa Union Mission in Somalia and Somali National Army forces.
