US strike kills 27 Al Shebaab fighters in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – United States drone strike targeting Al Shabaab targets has killed at least 27 fighters near Bosaso town in north of Somalia.

The strike was carried out on June 2, in an area some 26 miles southwest of Bosasso, killing at least 27 militants according statement by US Africom command.

US say the operation was conducted in coordination with Somali Federal government.

“We currently assess no civilians were killed in this airstrike”, according to Africom.

U.S. forces will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect U.S. citizens and to disable terrorist threats.

“This includes partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security Forces (SNSF) in combined counterterrorism operations and targeting Al Shabaab through Somalia”.
