US strike kills 2 Islamic State fighters in Somalia

MOGADISHU- The U.S. military says it has killed at least two Islamic State fighters in drone strike carried out in north of Somalia.

The strike was conducted on Wednesday in Golis Mountains held by Islamic State group in Somalia, said in a statement released by US Africom command.

“At this time, it is assessed the airstrike killed two (2) terrorists”, command said.

It is the fifth precision airstrike against Islamic State group in Somalia, since April 14 in a deliberate campaign to limit and disrupt its movement.

“Our efforts to locate and eradicate Islamic State leaders, who control a range of Activities–from operations to financing and communications–is hitting at the heart of the organization”, the command said.

The U.S. military says it will continue to work with Somali army forces in fighting against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab and Islamic State groups in Somalia.
