MOGADISHU – Somali especial forces known as Danab, along with US commandos launched joint military offensive against Al Shabaab targets in Jamame town, some 60km away from the coastal town of Kismayo.
The operation was carried out in Jamame, Kaban and Kabsuma after the coalition forces raided Al Shabaab hideouts, according to Somali military commander, Osma’il Sahardid.
Sahardid says the Somali and US especial forces destroyed several camps held by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab fighters during the operation.
“We have destroyed several militants camps in Lower Juba region, after our soldiers backed by US forces carried out offensive against Al Shabaab”, he said.
He says 20 people on suspicion of Al Shabaab members had also been arrested by the allied forces.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the military claims.
