MOGADISHU, Somalia – The US military claims to have killed an al Shabaab fighter in a drone strike carried out near Kunya –Barow town, some about 260km south of the capital, Mogadishu.

In a statement released by US African Command said the strike was conducted on June 25, 2019, in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia.

“At this time, we assess the airstrike killed one (1) militant”, the command said.

It says precision airstrikes continue to put pressure on the al-Shabaab network and degrade its efforts to intimidate and terrorize the local population.

But, Somali armed group al Shabaab denies to have lost a militant in the air raid.

The group claims US drone strike killed a well-known businessman identified as Abow Ali Wardiyow in his early 40s and father of 11 children from 3 wives on June 25 near Kunyo Barrow

However, U.S. military says it would continue working with Somali army forces and African Union troops to drive out of al Shabaab in Somalia.
