The United States military says it has carried out a drone strike against targets held by al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia, killing at least 5 militants.

The US Africa Command statement says the airstrike was conducted last night near Elbur town, leaving 5 militants dead and destroyed one vehicle.

The US has carried out a growing number of drone strikes in the Horn of Africa nation in coordination with Somalia’s government and African Union forces.

Somalia’s Al Shabaab denied any of its militants killed in the strike, saying 3 civilians had been killed by US airstrike near the town.

It is 5th drone strike carried out by US military so far this year in Somalia.
