US says 3 Al Shabaab militants killed Somalia strike

MOGADISHU – US drone strike targeting Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group in Somalia has left 3 militants dead.

In an online statement by U.S. Africa Command said the strike occurred some 40km southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu

The airstrike was conducted on August 27 in coordination with Somalia’s army forces.

No civilians were killed in the airstrike, according to US military statement.

Last week, US military said two militants were killed in drone strike in Somalia

The U.S. has carried out 20 such strikes this year against the Somalia-based al-Shabab. The al-Qaida-linked group is the deadliest Islamic extremist organization in sub-Saharan Africa and it often targets Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu
