US military says airstrike hits Al Shabaab
MOGADISHU, Somalia — The US military says it has carried out an airstrike targeting the Islamic militant group of al Shabaab in southren Somalia.
The strike was conducted on Nov. 30. near Jilib town of Middle Juba region in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, said in a statement released by U.S. Africa Command.
The command said it was assessing the results of the airstrike, adding that no civilians were injured or killed as a result of the bombing.
U.S. Africa Command pledged it would continue to work with its partners to transfer the responsibility for long-term security in Somalia to the Federal Government of Somalia and its Member States.
It says in support of the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. forces will use all effective and appropriate methods to assist in the protection of the Somali people, including partnered military counterterrorism operations with the Federal Government of Somalia, AMISOM, and Somali National Army forces.
