UPDATE: Al-Shabab claim the responsibly of the Somali presidential palace attack.

Mareeg.com-Twelve people killed including Mohamud Hersi Indaase the chief staff at the prime minister’s office and Noor Shibow former head of Somalia intelligence when Alshabab militants attacked the Mogadishu presidential palace famously known as Vila Somalia earlier today.


According to senior police officer the AlShabab fighters who attacked the palace were about 10 men in military uniform and the red hats worn by the presidential guards.

Al Qaeda-linked group al-Shabab said it carried out the attack on the heavily fortified presidential compound in Mogadishu, Somali president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was unharmed.

Reports indicate that the attackers passed over the checkpoints manned by AMISOM forces with out any delay before carrying out the attack near Masjid Shuhada which is at the centre of the presidential palace and a few metres from the president Mohamud residence.


Security in the capital Mogadishu has been deteriorating as government of Somalia is pushing for a major offensive against Alshabab in an effort to flash out from the remaining areas under their control.


The President Hassan Sheikh Mohamd sent his condolences to the victims of the attack saying they dedicated their lives to people of Somalia.

“My first duty is to send my condolences to the families of those killed or wounded in today’s disgusting attack. They include people who have dedicated their lives to making Somalia a better place and those who gave up successful careers in other countries and returned to Mogadishu to help a nation on its knees.”  He said.

He also warned against overestimating the strength of the terrorists

“I would remind everyone that all our misguided enemies will achieve are short-lived media headlines, here one day and gone the next. What they will not achieve, however, is any noticeable impact on the work of our government as we seek to rebuild Somalia after decades of war.”He said.  dalsanradio.com
