MOGADISHU, Somalia — Former President of Somalia and the chairman of the Union for Peace and Development (UPD) party Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has donated 100, 000 US dollars to Somali army forces in Marka town, some 91km south west of the country’s capital Mogadishu.

Mohamud’s donation comes after Somali military forces in the coastal town of Barawe in protest at not being paid for four months.

The army forces already vacated several towns in south of Somalia, where Al Shabaab reportedly recaptured, shortly after military’s departure.

However, according to Mogadishu, only those soldiers who had failed to register were not being paid.
