UN is Worried About Hundreds of Somalis Still Detained in Nairobi

On 31st March, Kenya Police arrested thousands of Somalis through swoops in Nairobi especially the Somali pre-dominantly inhabited estate of Eastleigh.

Hundreds were  deported to Somalia, some were returned to the refugee camps in Kenya while
still hundreds are being held in Nairobi especially at Safaricom Kasarani
Sports Grounds. The UNHCR spokesperson for the Branch Office in Nairobi Emanuel
Nyabera showed a great concern of hundreds of Somalis still being held by
police. He pointed out that about 300 children are among the Somalis still
being held at Kasarani. However, the Kenya Deputy Present on Tuesday night said
there are no Somalis still being held there as according to him some were
deported while the rest were sent to the refugee camps.

The Somali Embassy in Nairobi is still keeping a low profile regarding the Somalis still
being held at Kasarani.
