UN, AU to boost Somali National Army

Mareeg.com-Presidential Spokesman and senior advisor to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Engineer Abdirahman Omar Osman has said that there is ongoing discussion with both the United Nations and African union to improve the status of the Somali National Army.

Speaking during popular Dalsan radio weekly discussion program on Friday night Engineer Yarisow said UN and AU have agreed to help the federal government of Somalia improve the standard of its national defense force in terms of medical provision and salary increment.

Amid the extension of the UN arms embargo in Somalia, Somali national army is ill equipped and less paid compared to the AMISOM peace keeping force in Somalia.

However the recent move by the United Nations and the African union to build the capacity of the Somali armed forces can greatly contribute to the efforts of peace and stability in the war torn nation Moe on dalsanradio.com
