UK Secretary of State for Defence visits to Somaliland

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Defence Secretary has paid a visit to Hargeysa, the capital of Somaliland, a self-declared state, internationally considered to be an autonomous region of Somalia.

The Secretary of State for Defence of UK Gavin Williamson arrived in Hargeisa to discuss how Britain can cooperate more closely with Somalialnd.

The leader of Somaliland, Mouse Bihi says he had warmly welcomed a high level delegation led by UK’s Defence Secretary.

Bihi says he and Williamson had profoundly discussed on strengthening Somaliland and UK bilateral and historical relationship.

Mr. Williamson had also paid a visit to Kenya before he travelled into Somaliland.

Williamson said he had an opportunity to catch up with some of his service personnel based in Kenya.

However, UK has four hundred British Army personnel in Kenya and 10,000 men and women training in Kenya every year.
