UK Defense Secretary arrives in Mogadishu

The UK Secretary of State for Defense , Gavin Williamson has paid a surprise visit to Somali capital Mogadishu

Williamson held talk with Somali President Mohamed Abudllahu Farmajo, discussing wider range of issues including UK support to Somalia.

He pledged his government would continue supporting Somalia in fighting against Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

Mr. Williamson has visited UK troops in Halane camp in Mogadishu, a base housed by African Union, Britian, UN, US and other foreign diplomats.

The UK Secretary urged troops to double its effort to help Somali National Army (SNA) forces battle Al Shabaab.

In Halane camp, Williamson met with senior African Union officials, discussing how UK and AMISOM can help deliver the Somali Transition Plan.

The UK Secretary of State for Defense , Gavin Williamson underlined the critical role AMISOM plays in helping Somalia take responsibility for its security.
