U.S. Military delegation arrives in Bosaso

MOGADISHU, Somalia – U.S. delegation, led by AFRICOM commander, arrived in Bosaso, Puntland’s commercial and business hub.

Puntland Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, currently on a working visit, received the delegation including Deputy U.S. Ambassador Justin Davis and other senior diplomats.

Also attending were General Aaden Abdi Hashi, Abdifataax Abdinuur, General Cabdirabi Cabdisamed, and presidential advisers Mohamed Dhabancad and Mohamed Seefta Banaanka, among others.

The discussions covered strengthening cooperation against terrorism, including ongoing operations targeting ISIS in the Calmiskaad mountains, aiming to secure the region and protect local communities effectively.

Delegation and Puntland also reviewed ways to expand collaboration, improve intelligence sharing, and accelerate counterterrorism efforts throughout the region.

AFRICOM praised Puntland authorities for their commitment, perseverance, and resilience during counterterrorism operations.

Puntland also thanked the U.S. government and AFRICOM for their continued support, operational assistance, and strategic role in counterterrorism efforts within Puntland and Somalia.

In recent weeks, U.S. forces intensified their focus on Puntland, especially in the Calmiskaad mountains, conducting heavy airstrikes targeting ISIS and militant positions.
