Twin blasts kill one and injure scores in Wajir attack

One person has died and five others sustained injuries after twin explosions rocked Wajir town Friday evening.

The injured were rushed to Wajir general hospital.

Two of the injured were found at the scene while the other three were in a nearby bush.
According to witnesses, the two grenades were thrown outside a studio near Baraza Park in the centre of the town about 500 metres from each other a few minutes before eight o’clock in the evening.

Minutes after the explosions took place, police reservists fired several gunshots in the air to disperse a crowd that had milled around the scene.

Police have not yet identified the attackers and no group has claimed responsibility.

Wajir county commissioner Naftali Mung’athia said the dead person was of Somali origin.

Mr Mung’athia said the police were also combing the area for more casualties and pursuing the attackers, who fled after the attack.
