MOGADISHU, Somalia — A Turkish warship arrived off Mogadishu’s coast on Wednesday, signaling expanding military cooperation between Somalia and Turkey.
The vessel, TCG SANCAKTAR, was welcomed by Somali government officials along the capital’s coastline during a formal reception ceremony, authorities said.
Somalia’s state minister for defense and the national army commander boarded the ship during the ceremony, accompanied by senior officials.
The arrival comes as Somalia prioritizes rebuilding and modernizing its navy and coast guard to strengthen maritime security nationwide.
Turkey increased military deliveries to Somalia, including equipment and an Airbus A400M cargo aircraft landing in Mogadishu.
