MOGADISHU, Somalia – F-16 fighter jets staged a low-altitude military parade over Mogadishu Wednesday, demonstrating Turkey’s growing strategic and military presence in Somalia.
The jets flew alongside Turkish-made helicopters now operated by Somali Air Force personnel, symbolizing increasing security cooperation between Somalia and Turkey.
Turkish officers are deployed across Somalia’s air, naval, and land forces, while warships patrol waters protecting oil installations and infrastructure projects.
Preparations at Mogadishu airport include hangars, maintenance facilities, and technical teams supporting aircraft operations and strengthening Somalia’s emerging military capabilities.
Observers say the parade underscores Ankara’s effort to expand strategic influence in Somalia, particularly in defense, energy, and technological sectors.
