The FGS Launches a Transparent Payment System for the SNA
On September 29th 2016, the FGS launched a sequence of initiatives to ensure that the Somali National Army troops are paid in a consistent and timely manner. HE the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Adan Ibrahim Ferkeeti has formally opened a two months training workshop, explaining: “Over the coming months, the government will implement a reformed payroll process which will include robust fiduciary controls and also see the piloting of a new programme of automated payroll processes for the payment of Somalia’s soldiers. This new system will reduce opportunities for embezzlement and enable government funds to be efficiently deployed and accounted for.”
HE the Minister of Defence, General Abdulkadir Ali Diini, and experts of the programme from the Ministry of National Security attended the launch. Also in attendance were senior officers from European Union Training Mission, who provide training to SNA and AMISOM officials.
HE the Minister of Defence continued: “This initiative consolidates the progress made on Security Sector Reform, something the FGS is totally committed to. We are working together to improve our financial systems to ensure that our soldiers are paid the wages they are entitled to, on time, no matter where they are located. Efforts like this will help the SNA in its efforts to stabilise the country, allowing for focus on the important issues.”
