Somalia’s opposition coalition has outlined three conditions for participating in President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s June 15 national consultative dialogue.
The coalition demanded inclusive talks, a clearly defined agenda, and full participation from all Federal Member States and opposition figures.
They say these are necessary to address constitutional reform, elections and the fight against terrorist groups like Al Shabab.
The coalition also welcomed the dialogue initiative but emphasized the need for transparency, inclusivity and meaningful outcomes.
“The coalition stands for saving the nation, uniting the people, and rescuing Somali statehood,” they said in their statement.
President Mohamud said the June 15 talks would help stabilize Somalia’s fragile political, security, and economic situation.
Critics say President Mohamud made the decision after growing pressure from the opposition and foreign diplomats in Mogadishu.
They also question whether Jubaland and Puntland state leaders will join the talks as both are engaged in political disputes with President Mohamud.
Both states severed ties with the central government over constitutional changes favoring President Mohamud’s bid for a third term.
They have vowed not to restore relations until President Mohamud reverses all the constitutional changes he enacted.
