Harambee Starlets of Kenya have made their way to the final of theongoing 2016 CECAFA Women’s championship, after beating Ethiopia’s Lucy 3-2 in their semi-final clash on Sunday.
The Ethiopians who played short passes took the lead of the match during the first half when striker Losa Abera [No 7] scored a goal in the 37th minute before completing a brace in the 82nd minute.
But the Kenyan women who changed tactics and stepped up attacks on their opponents in the second half managed to score three goals to make sure their place in the final.
Okoth Nedy Otieno [No 9] scored a brace for her team in the 52nd and 63rd minutes, before Omondi Carolyne [No 10] netted the 3rd goal for the Starlets in the 72nd minute of the hotly-contested match.
Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Queens punished hosts Crested Cranes of Uganda 4-1 in the second semi-final match on Sunday to reach final.
Donesia Daniel [No 6], Mwanahamisi Omari [No 7], Stumai Abdalla [No 8] and Captain Asha Rashidi [No 14] scored the goals for Tanzania in the 5th, 17th, 31st, and 64th minutes of the match which was mostly dominated by the Kilimanjaro Queens.
Monday will be a resting day and according to the time table of the
competition, losers of Sunday’s matches Ethiopia and Uganda will compete for the 3rd place in the first match on Tuesday, while in the final match Kenya will fight Tanzania for the trophy of the CECAFA women’s cup which is being held for the first time in three decades.
