Surveillance drone crushes in Somalia
MOGADISHU, Somalia – A suspected US surveillance drone has crushed on Thursday near Buloburde town, some 425 km west of Mogadishu.
The surveillance drone smashed into Burwein area near the town, a witness said.
He says the Djiboutian troops under AU peacekeeping force took away the wreckage of the drone.
The mission has made no comment yet over the drone crush.
But, the Djiboutian peacekeepers have their major camp in Baladweyne town, about 335km north of the capital, Mogadishu.
The U.S. military often uses spy drone to spot targets held by al Shabaab in Somalia.
The group battling the Mogadishu -based government has affiliated with the terror group of al Qaeda.
The U.S. military has carried out 59 airstrikes in this year alone targeting al Shabaab militants.
But, a small number of those raids targeted Islamic State members in northern Somalia, said in a statement released by US Africom.
