Sudan’s military accused the UAE of funneling weapons and mercenaries through Puntland to support the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Sudan urged Somalia to investigate suspected arms routes via Bosaso’s port and airport.
The RSF has fought Sudan’s army since April 2023, devastating Khartoum and Darfur. Both Puntland and the UAE deny involvement, calling accusations baseless.
Following Sudan’s protest, UAE officials visited Mogadishu for talks. Somalia has close ties with the UAE, which maintains relations with Puntland and Somaliland.
Sudan cut ties with the UAE in May, accusing it of arming the RSF—claims the UAE denies. The conflict has killed over 40,000 and displaced millions.
Sudan insists the RSF relies on foreign support and wants Somalia to block arms routes, though Mogadishu faces pressure to keep UAE relations.
