Somaliland President Abdirahman Abdullahi attended a dinner reception in Switzerland and posed for a photo with Eric Trump, a spokesperson for the president’s son said, but no formal meeting took place between the two men.
Kimberly Benza, Eric Trump’s spokesperson, told Reuters that more than 100 guests attended the event.
She emphasized that Eric Trump did not meet privately with Abdullahi, nor did they discuss any port development or other policy matters.
Benza also said Eric Trump did not comment on a speech delivered by the Somaliland leader at the dinner.
“Pleasantries were exchanged, that is it,” she said, characterizing the encounter as a brief social interaction rather than a substantive discussion.
Somaliland, a self-declared breakaway region from Somalia, has sought international recognition but is not formally recognized as a sovereign state.
