Somaliland has withdrawn from all dialogue with Somalia, citing Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s recent visit to Las Anod as the reason.
The self-declared state called the visit “provocative and unlawful,” accusing Somalia of undermining diplomatic efforts and violating the spirit of negotiations.
“Barre’s actions breached trust,” they said. “Effective immediately, we are suspending all talks with Somalia.”
Las Anod, located in the disputed Sool region, remains a source of conflict between Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo opposing its rule.
Somaliland viewed Barre’s visit as a challenge to its claimed authority over the region.
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991, but it is not internationally recognized and remains officially part of Somalia.
The move is seen as a major blow to hopes for peaceful resolution and future cooperation between the two sides.
