HARGEISA – Somaliland, a self-declared state, internationally considered to be an autonomous region of Somalia, has been accused of committing human rights violations, including arbitrary arrests
The police of Somaliland have arrested one of its lawmakers identified as Mohamed Ahmed. He was taken into criminal investigation department. He complained that 18 may was a day of SNM Militias that was headed by muse Bixi in 1990 war with somali military regime. He say there is no inclusive somaliland.The country is owned and managed by Isaq clan.
His detention comes after he went against celebration of 18th May which marks the independence of Somaliland.
Somaliland leadership has been facing allegations relating to a self-declared republic that has been seeking recognition since.
Somaliland authorities was also accused of intimidating, oppressing and arresting politicians and journalists in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland over criticisms.
The leadership of Somaliland was asked to act decisively to end intimidation and violence against journalists and politicians.
The journalists say they often receive threats, intimidation, and violence with self-censorship by the authorities in Hargeisa.
Somaliland was urged to protect journalists and others from violent crimes to enable them to work without fear or favour.
