somalia:Suspected U.S. drone crashes in Al Shabaab-held Somali town

A suspected US drone has on Sunday crashed in an Al shabaab stronghold in Somalia’s southern Lower Shabelle region, reports said.

The drone is said to have been conducting a surveillance operation before it crashed in a the Al shabaab-held Gobanle area, located some 70Km north of Balli-Dogle airbase in Lower Shabelle province.

It is yet unclear which country belongs to the crashed drone, but Unites States military has been routinely carrying out airstrikes against Al shabaab in south and central Somalia over the past few years.

U.S. is said to be operating a secret drone base in Balli-Dogle village, where Somali troops are being trained by foreign military, including Americans, European union experts.
