MOGADISHU – Somali-based group of Al Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the assassination in regional lawmaker, who was shot and killed by gunmen in Mogadishu.
In an online statement, the group said it carried out an orchestrated attack in Shibis neighborhood after the group’s assassins shot dead regional lawmaker named as Ruqiya Abshir Noor near her home.
“We will continue targeting government and regional administrations officials at every corner in Somalia”, statement reads.
The victim was hit several times on chest and head by men armed with pistols, policeman Abdi Wakil said.
Wakil told Mareeg Online that Ms Noor had been rushed to Medina hospital where she succumbed to injuries.
Noor has been a member of Southwest regional parliament based in Baidoa town, some 250km southwest of Mogadishu.
The killers reportedly escaped from the crime scene.
The body of Ms Noor was earlier on Wednesday buried at graveyard in Somali capital Mogadishu.
