Somalia’s Puntland MP killed in Galkacyo town

GALKACYO, Somalia – Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland Member of Parliament has been shot and killed by unknown gunmen on Wednesday night in Somalia’s central town of Galkayo, police said.

The deceased MP, whose name has been identified as Abdihakim Mo’alim was assassinated by young hooded men armed with pistols near Clasic hotel in the town, police officer, Hussein Hassan said.

Hassan says the lawmaker Mo’alim had succumbed to his injuries shortly after being brought him into hospital.

“We have taken MP Mo’alim into hospital after he was hit several times on the head and chest by gunmen, but, unfortunately, he succumbed to his wounds”, he said.

A security guard at hotel was also killed in the shooting, according to Hassan, who spoke to Mareeg Online via phone from the town.

The killers escaped from crime scene.

The Puntland security forces launched an operation over the killing, but no arrests were made over the incident.

No group says it carried out the assassination in the town.
