Somalia’s State of Galmudug and Ahlusuna Waljamaca have officially united on Thursday after a reconciliation conference held in Dhusamareb town which is the capital of central Somalia’s region of Galgadud.
Ahlusuna, is Ethiopian backed moderate Suffi group who was not part of Galmudug until this although talking between the two sides were held in neighboring Djibouti and Somali capital Mogadishu.
The reconciliation ceremony in the group’s stronghold town of Dhusamareb were attended by Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, UN envoy to Somalia Michael Keating, IGAD representatives and Galmudug and Ahlusuna leaders.
Somali president have called upon the people in the state to work together towards peace and development.
” The people of Galmudug are very tired from fighting, we need to avoid any further violence ” Somali president said speaking at the ceremony in Dhusamareb on Thursday.
To day it is a good day for the people in the region and all Somali people, the president added.
Meanwhile the president officially announces that troops belonging to moderate Suffi group Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamaa will be integrated into the Somali armed forces.
ASWJ currently control most parts of central Somalia with its biggest base in Dhuusamareeb.
