Somalia’s Al Shabaab says 5 AU soldiers killed in explosion
MOGADISHU, Somalia — The militant group al Shabaab says it has killed five Djiboutian soldiers under African Union force in an explosion in Hiran region of central Somalia.
The attack comes days after 12 African Union soldiers were killed in an attack claimed by Al Shabaab in the north of the capital, Mogadishu.
Tuesday’s explosion targeted Djibouti’s military convoy while traveling between Jalalaqsi and Buloburde towns in the region, leaving 5 soldiers dead, said the group.
There was no immediate comment from Djibouti or African Union mission over the claims.
The attack comes a day after Nakibus Lakara, deputy AMISOM force commander in charge of operations and plans paid a visit to Djibouti and Ethiopia’s bases in Baladweyne town, some 300km north of Mogadishu.
