Somalia’s Al Shabaab media operative arrested in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) say a member of al Shabaab media department has been arrested on Thursday in the capital, Mogadishu.
NISA says the suspected operative was detained after an operation was carried out in Howlwadag district of Mogadishu.
The detainee, whose name has not been released, was taken into security facility for further interrogations.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.
The militant Islamic group carried out similar deadly attacks which left dozens in the capital, Mogadishu for the last couple of months.
The group was pushed out of Mogadishu capital in 2011 by Somali army troops and 22,000-strong African Union force in Somalia.
The rebel group also lost most of their strongholds, but it still controls large rural areas and remains the key threat to peace in Somalia.
The al Qaeda linked group has been fighting for over ten years to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Somalia.
