MOGADISHU, Somalia –Somali armed group Al Shabaab claims to have carried out mortar attack on African Union troops’ base in Jalalaqsi town of Hiran region.

The group claimed through its website that its fighters had killed at least 5 Djiboutian soldiers serving under African Union mission known AMISOM.

There was no immediate comment from AMISOM over the claims.

Last week, the al Qaeda linked group claimed to have killed three US soldiers after the group’s fighters fired several mortar rounds at US air base in Balidogle, some 95km northwest of Mogadishu.

Al Shabaab has been fighting more than ten years to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
