Somalia:More police and intelligence officers to be deployed at Lower Shabelle region
Mareeg.com-Prime Minister of the Somali Federal Republic says that the security condition in towns and districts of Lower Shabelle is well and that it needs continuous monitoring to make sure it stays that way, specifically referring to Qoryole which was liberated from Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab terrorist group weeks ago.
Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed the Prime Minister, said that majority of the government troops in Lower Shabelle are from the Somali National Army and that there needs to be reshuffling over the security personnel in the region.
Speaking after a concise excursion to Marka and Qoryole, Mr. Ahmed declared that the Ministry of National Security will order the deployment of a police force and National Intelligence & Security Agency troops to Lower Shabelle to protect the citizens from terrorist insurgents in the region.
“The government is committed to safeguarding the liberated towns and districts of Lower Shabelle so it does not fall into the hands of terrorists. We are immensely appreciative of the Somali National Army and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) for their relentless efforts in securing a string of towns in the country, and hope that they will be able to seize other Al-Shabaab strongholds in the region including Barawe.” He said
The Prime Minister was accompanied by a delegation including Ministers, legislators, military personnel and other high-ranking officials on a two-day trip to Marka and Qoryole in which he held meetings with civil society groups
